EOMonDis Project

The EOMonDis Project (Bringing Earth Observation Services for Monitoring Dynamic Forest Disturbances to the Users) aims to offer operational Earth Observation (EO) based tropical forest monitoring services to support countries and a wide range of users with accurate relevant forest information data for their management and reporting requirements. The overall goals of EOMonDis are achieved by the following  main tasks

Requirements Assessment

Ongoing in-depth market and user requirement assessment for specific forest products in relation to forest area, deforestation and degradation and above-ground biomass in humid and dry tropical biomes.

Development and Innovation

Development of new robust methods for satellite data processing and prototyping a commercial service platform that offers a comprehensive range of map products for forest monitoring in the humid and dry tropical sub-biomes.

Demonstration and Validation

Partners will test and integrate the technical components of the innovation results into operational processing chains, perform accuracy assessments and demonstrate the improved product generation in the larger demonstration sites.

Service Sustainability

Based on the innovation activities and the user validated results the EOMonDis project will be ready to provide user-tailored forest monitoring products.



The products for forest monitoring in humid and dry tropical forests developed under the EOMonDis project are based on the current state-of-the-art of satellite remote sensing and the initial assessment of user requirements.
The product are provided to registered users thru a deticated platform that is avaibale here.


Project Background

The EOMonDis project is embedded in the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation of the European Union. Products and services developed during the course of EOMonDis can support countries to fulfil their reporting requirements in the framework of REDD+ and assist to implement and monitor Zero Deforestation commitments.

The COP23 held in Bonn, Germany this year provided an important opportunity for EOMonDis to network with countries involved in the REDD+ process from Africa and L. America but also provided a chance to meet and interview representatives from the financing institutes such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the World Bank Forest Carbon Partnership Fund (FCPF).
